The tundra’s endless open spaces and harmonious human existence with nature at the end of the earth have inspired me to create these images, though modern Eskimo life is in contradiction to their native way of life. My Eskimo friend told me her life story. She decided to leave her native village and find her fortune in the big city. There was not much to keep her in her own village. Her mother and sister were drinking. The family’s friends were drinking. A girl was in love with a young and handsome herdsman, and he was also poisoned by alcohol. He could not work any more and deserted his herd, which was later lost in the endless tundra.
There are no special ferments that can split alcohol in the blood of Eskimos, so they cannot resist the alcohol problem. And the girl is still trying to find her good luck, roaming from one city to another. And she also could not resist the temptations of the big cities and modern civilization.
